The Mixed Up Chameleon
Third graders listened to the story "The Mixed-Up Chameleon". The students discussed different animals with pattern furs, scales, etc. They colored in a template of the chameleon in a pattern of their choice. The 4th graders were challenged to make these construction paper chameleons. One of the 6th graders displayed her Mega Dot-to-Dot of a chameleon.

Birds in a tree
Second Graders: I gave the second grade students a standard piece of construction paper. They were instructed to make a bird. I told them how big their bird should be - otherwise I would end up with a bunch of 3 inch birds. They could add features like wings, eyes, beaks etc with scrap paper provided. I purchased a large wall tree - TREND brand. I added their birds into the branches and filled in with the green leaves and critters. The tree is probably 5 ft tall- it was perfect size for all of our creations. Maybe we will add pumpkins to the ground for Halloween.
Warm and Cool Colors
Fifth Graders : Students were provided with a white square of construction paper 12 x 12. I purchased special "circle creators" from Hobby Lobby. They are like a ruler but have a rotating center. If you hold the center in place and stick your pencil in a hole at the other end it will allow you to rotate around the page and draw a perfect circle. Choose different holes along the ruler to create multiple circles to fill the page. (holes about 4 spaces apart worked the best) We discussed warm and cool colors. Students created a pattern within the circles and an opposite pattern in the hands. These were done with crayons.
Art in the sytle of Lichtenstein
Our third grade class created Lichtenstein inspired artwork. I took side profile pictures of each student. I loaded them into the Crayola Color Me website. It pulled all of the color off the picture and left a black and white color page. The students looked at a few examples of Lichtenstein. Most did very well at adding careful dots to fill in the face with fine tip markers. Maddie was not as brave but she added dots to the clothing area. Solid colors on the hair worked the best. Dots spaced evenly and neatly on the face looked great. We mounted on construction paper. As an added writing activity, the students looked through Halloween jokes. They picked one joke and wrote it neatly on writing paper. The joke was on one page then answer on second page. Pages were stapled together at the top and attached to the construction paper below the "comic like" pictures.
